Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has reportedly filmed her final scenes in the ITV soap after a whopping 25 years in the role of Eileen Grimshaw.

The actress recently announced her plans to wave goodbye to Weatherfield after 25 years on-and-off in the iconic role at the start of the year.

She said in a statement: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street. The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”

As part of Eileen’s departure from the cobbles, Eileen’s sister Julie Carp returned to Weatherfield with devastating news. After almost ten years away, Julie is set to surprise her sister Eileen with actress Katy Cavanagh reprised the role and revealed the character has terminal cancer.

Meanwhile, Ryan Thomas has also been back filming on the Street, almost 10 years after he last stepped foot on the cobbles as Jason Grimshaw.

Jason left Weatherfield in 2016 after being manipulated by his mother’s new boyfriend and later husband, Pat Phelan, but the door was also left open for a possible return.

Jason was not killed off and instead he emigrated to Thailand and has been mentioned by his mum Eileen on numerous occasion since, with her even making numerous visits to see him.

Confirming his return for Sue’s departure, Ryan revealed: “I got the call from Sue saying would I come back for her exit storyline – that’s where my career started and I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for Coronation Street…”

Ryan went on: “That place will always have my respect and I’m very loyal to where I came from. They taught me everything I know, so I’m excited.” But he warned that fans shouldn’t get too excited – as his cameo will be brief. “It’s not for very long. I’m going to hopefully step onto the cobbles for five minutes,” he added.

Now, The Sun has reported that on Friday (March 28), Sue filmed her final scenes at the Trafford-based set. Corrie’s new boss Kate Brooks told the publication: “We’re sad to bid farewell to the wonderful Sue Cleaver.

“Over the past 25 years, Eileen Grimshaw has been at the heart of some of the most memorable and iconic Corrie storylines, and her on-screen rivalry with Gail Platt will undoubtedly go down in Corrie folklore.”

She added: ““There’s certainly no one quite like Eileen, and her character will be hugely missed on the Cobbles. We wish Sue all the very best as she embarks on her next exciting chapter.”
